Understanding & Mitigating Suicidality in Older Adults

Overview

Older adults represent one of the highest-risk populations for suicide, yet their warning signs are often subtle and frequently overlooked.

This interactive workshop provides mental health professionals with practical tools, research-based insights, and real-world strategies to recognize and respond to suicidality in older adults.

Participants will learn how to approach assessment and intervention through a trauma-sensitive and culturally humble lens, improving outcomes and strengthening support for this vulnerable population.

Focus

Participants will gain practical skills to:

• Identify risk factors and warning signs unique to older adults
• Recognize protective factors that reduce suicide risk
• Apply trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches
• Navigate ethical considerations and suicide risk assessment
• Implement meaningful intervention strategies in clinical practice
• Address real-world challenges in working with older adult populations

Continuing Education Units (CEU)

Participants will receive 5 CEU Credits including 1 hour of Ethics.

A Certificate of Completion will be emailed to participants who attend the training and submit the evaluation form.
